What you wanted to know about liposuction

Liposuction is currently the most popular procedure among our clients. If you too are considering undergoing this procedure, you may be interested in the answers to the following questions.

How many kilograms of fat can be drawn off at one time?

The amount of fat extracted is individual, is determined in millimetres, and depends on your weight, the size of the area being treated, and the doctor’s recommendations. Your doctor will tell you what results you can expect during consultation.

Is liposuction sore?

If you undergo the procedure under general anaesthetic, you sleep and feel nothing. If the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, the injection of the tumescent solution in the subcutis might be sensitive. However, the anaesthetic will start working after a while and you will feel only slight pressure during the procedure. The anaesthetic in the subcutis then keeps working for several hours after the procedure. You might feel slight pain while you are recuperating, while the damaged skin and subcutis are healing, but this differs from person to person.

Why do you have to wear compression underwear after liposuction?

Compression underwear reduces post-procedure pain and is essential for proper healing. It also promotes the tightening of loose skin.

Is hospitalisation necessary?

In the event of liposuction under local anaesthetic, when only the problem areas are numbed and you remain fully conscious, you go home right after the procedure. You will have to stay one night at the clinic when the procedure is done under general anaesthetic.

Which type of liposuction is best?

Your doctor will advise you on the most appropriate method of liposuction after consultation. Our doctors have the most advance equipment at their disposal – classic tumescent liposuction, Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL), and liposuction using the body-jet system. If the quality of your skin and the subcutis of the given area allow, the procedure can be completed with Plasma Lipolysis.  The thermal effect of this technology makes it possible to prevent minor bumps and tighten skin which is not particularly elastic, which would otherwise make liposuction impossible.

Does liposuction leave behind any scars?

You will have a tiny scar of approximately 0.5 cm in length after liposuction. This is not stitched, simply covered with a plaster, and will blend in completely with the surrounding skin within one year at most. After that, it will not be visible at all.

Does liposuction work on a man’s “beer” belly?

Liposuction is a very popular procedure among men. They most commonly use the procedure to deal with body parts such as the breasts, hips, and abdomen. It is, however, important to remember that fat is distributed differently in the male body. A bulging “beer belly” is created by the deposition of fat inside the abdominal cavity. It is intra-abdominal fat that cannot be extracted, and only a healthy lifestyle and exercise can help. Liposuction only works with subcutaneous fat.

Can my fat return to the suctioned area?

If you want to stay slim, you need to keep an eye on energy intake and output. If intake is higher, fat will primarily begin building up in areas where liposuction was not done. You can also gain weight in the area having undergone liposuction, but generally not to the same extent because you now have a reduced number of fat cells in this area.  After abdominal liposuction, for example, fat might build up more in the sides if you don’t stick to a good lifestyle.
